Visualisation has proven to be essential to comprehend and gain knowledge from data. In the beginning it was limited to tailor-made software. Tools like Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, etc., has significantly lowered the bar for doing data visualisation and have enabled business-users themselves to construct insightful and colourful visualization reports. The difficult challenge still remains; why we visualise, what to visualise, and how to do this most effectively. In this talk we cover many of the whys, the whats, and the hows of data visualization, taking the audience on a journey into the fascinating field of visualisation and visual communication. The goal is to provide knowledge and practical advice for them to take their own visualisations beyond what they do today. Topics range from perception and gestalt theory, to practical tips and recommendations, of what questions to ask, why a little data massaging can have large effects on the insight, and which visualisations to use and to avoid.
